Overview
The Human Resources Department at MMFN is seeking a well-educated, versatile, and highly organised professional to assume the role of Human Resources Coordinator. Serving as the direct link between the Human Resources Manager and the employees of MMFN, Salmon Parks, and Nis’Maas, the Coordinator ensures timely and accurate support in payroll, group benefits, pension administration, performance review follow-up, and day-to-day employee matters. The objective is to recruit a candidate who can grow into broader HR responsibilities over time. This role requires strong judgement, analytical ability, multitasking capacity, and exceptional attention to detail.
This position offers a competitive annual salary ranging from $35.71 to $39.56 hourly ($65,000–$72,000 annually), based on experience and education. A relocation package will be included for the successful candidate.
Location
The Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation, a territory located on the beautiful west coast of Vancouver Island.
Duties and Responsibilities
Act as the first point of contact between the Human Resources Manager and employees across MMFN, Salmon Parks, and Nis’Maas on routine HR matters.
Coordinate payroll entries, employee changes, leave and time-related follow-up, and liaise with the Finance Department to support accurate payroll processing.
Assist with enrolments, changes, and terminations in the Manulife Group Benefits Plan and the pension plan, and follow up with Manulife and Payworks on behalf of the Human Resources Manager.
Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date employee files, trackers, and HR records across all entities.
Support recruitment, job postings, interview coordination, offers, onboarding, offboarding, and related employee documentation.
Follow up on performance reviews under the direction of the Human Resources Manager and assist departmental managers with employee-related issues as they arise.
Prepare HR letters, employment documents, spreadsheets, reports, and correspondence with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
Use Microsoft 365 tools, particularly Excel, Copilot, and Power Apps, to track information, analyze data, and improve HR workflows.
Minimum Qualifications (Education / Training / Certifications)
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration with a concentration in human resources, or a related field is required. (Four years of university education completed.) A CPHR designation, or active status as a CPHR Candidate, is strongly preferred.
Minimum two years of relevant experience in HR coordination, HR administration, payroll, benefits, or a similar role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Fully proficient in Microsoft 365, with advanced Excel skills required; familiarity with Copilot and Power Apps is essential.
Familiar with payroll software, ideally Payworks, and with Manulife Group Benefits administration.
Experience coordinating or supporting a pension plan within a mid-sized organisation.
Strong analytical, organisational, communication, and multitasking skills, with excellent attention to detail and discretion.
Other
Valid driver’s licence and access to own vehicle required; rural setting with no public transport.
