Overview
The Home Support Worker provides compassionate and personalized in-home care to MMFN citizens, helping them maintain a high quality of life while living independently.
The role includes assisting clients with mobility challenges, providing guidance on healthy eating habits, helping with daily activities, and actively participating in care-related meetings. The Home Support Worker contributes to the overall well-being of each client by creating a safe, supportive, and caring environment in their home.
This position is available part-time or full-time, up to 63 hours biweekly, and reports to the Health and Social Services Manager.
Location
Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation territory, Gold River, BC, on the beautiful west coast of Vancouver Island.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist Elder citizens and others in need with home support to prepare for health appointments and manage basic daily needs.
- Advise clients on healthy eating habits and meal planning, and make sure they have non-perishable food stocks available.
- Conduct home visits to assess safety, cleanliness, and potential risks within the living environment.
- Assist clients with mobility, providing physical support as needed so they can move freely and safely.
- Advise clients on healthy lifestyle practices and inform them of community activities and resources they can access.
- Organize and help plan activities that promote client engagement, physical health, and mental well-being.
- Collaborate with clients’ families to plan and implement individualized care strategies.
- Help organize and facilitate care planning meetings with clients and their families.
- Maintain organized client files, with detailed notes and reports documented in a timely and accurate manner.
- Perform other related tasks and duties as required to ensure the well-being of clients.
Minimum Qualifications (Education / Training / Certifications)
- Certificate or diploma in Personal Support Work or Health Care Aide preferred.
- Valid First Aid and CPR required.
- Minimum three years of experience working in a similar role required.

- Ability to interact with others in a tactful, compassionate, respectful, and sensitive manner.
- High degree of attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
- Ability to handle situations where complex, high-pressure, difficult decisions or emergencies may occur.
- A high level of confidentiality, honesty, and consistency.
- Knowledge of the language is an asset.
Other
- RCMP clearance and vulnerable sector check, not older than two years.
- Work is performed indoors, mainly off site in clients’ homes.
- Must be able to work shift work, as hours will fluctuate.
